Masteron is indicated for treatment of breast cancer in elderly post-menopausal as part of aspecific immunotherapy. Drostenolone, or dromostanolone, is an anabolic?androgenic steroid (AAS) of the dihydrotestosterone (DHT) group which was never marketed. An androgen ester prodrug of drostanolone, drostanolone propionate, was formerly used in the treatment of breast cancer in women under brand names such as Drolban, Masteril, and Masteron. This ester has also been used non-medically for physique- or performance-enhancing purposes. Masteron or drostenolone propionate is a dihydrotestosterone derived anabolic steroid. Specifically, Masteron is the hormone that has been structurally altered by the addition of a methyl group at the carbon 2 position, This protects the hormone from the metabolic breakdown by the 3-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase enzyme, which is found in the skeletal muscle. It also greatly increases the hormone’s anabolic nature. This simple structural change is all it takes to create drostenolone, and from here the small/short propionate ester is attached in order to control the hormone’s release time.
